Microcement Boston: Seamless Floors, Walls & Baths

One seamless surface, finished by hand like a piece of art. Waterproof, modern surfaces for bathrooms, showers, floors and feature walls. No grout lines, no tile joints, installed by the owner with a detailed written estimate.

Microcement is the finish designers keep asking for by name: a thin, seamless cement-based coating that wraps floors, walls, showers and vanities in one continuous surface with no grout lines and no tile joints. It reads modern and calm, and it is tough enough for daily use.

It is also one of the hardest finishes to find a real installer for in Greater Boston. Ezra Plastering installs it end to end, over the right substrate, sealed to be genuinely waterproof, with the owner on the job so the surface comes out even and consistent.

What is microcement

Microcement is a blend of cement, fine aggregates, polymers and pigments applied in thin layers, usually just two to three millimeters thick. Because it is so thin, it can go over existing tile, concrete or a properly prepared substrate without a full demolition. Sealed correctly, it becomes a continuous, water-resistant surface. New to it? Start with our guide on what microcement is and what it costs.

Microcement bathrooms and showers

The bathroom is where microcement earns its reputation. A microcement shower has no grout to scrub and no joints to fail, just one clean surface from floor to ceiling. We build it up with the right primers, mesh and sealers so it stands up to daily water in a New England home.

Microcement flooring

On floors, microcement gives you a warm, seamless, low-profile surface that works with underfloor heating and modern interiors. It is a strong choice for open-plan living spaces, entryways and kitchens where tile grout would break up the look.

Seamless and waterproof, built for New England

The reason to choose a real installer is the system underneath the finish. We prepare the substrate, reinforce the corners and transitions, and seal the surface so it actually holds up to humidity, temperature swings and daily use. A cheap microcement job fails at the seams and the seal. Ours does not have seams.

Microcement vs Tadelakt

Both give you a seamless, waterproof look, but they are different materials. Microcement is cement based and comes in almost any color; Tadelakt is a polished Moroccan lime plaster with a softer, more organic feel. We install both and can help you choose. Microcement in Greater Boston bathrooms and kitchens

Microcement is a thin, cement based coating (usually 2 to 3 millimeters) that bonds to almost any sound surface: tile, drywall, plaster, concrete or plywood, so a bathroom or kitchen can be transformed without a full tear-out. That is why it has become the go-to for seamless, grout-free showers and vanities.

The catch is the substrate and the sealer. On a shower or wet room the movement of the wall and the quality of the waterproofing membrane underneath matter more than the coating itself. We install the membrane, reinforce the corners, and finish with a high-performance polyurethane sealer rated for wet areas, the same care a tile setter takes, applied to a seamless surface.

For New England kitchens, microcement countertops and backsplashes give a warm, matte, concrete look that resists heat and stains once sealed. We walk homeowners through exactly which sealer and maintenance routine fits how they actually use the space.

Caring for microcement after installation

Microcement is low maintenance, but it is a finished surface, not raw concrete, and a little care keeps it looking the way it did on day one. Clean it with warm water and a pH neutral cleaner; avoid bleach, ammonia and abrasive pads, which wear down the protective sealer over time.

In showers, a squeegee after use keeps mineral deposits from building up, which matters with the hard water many Greater Boston towns have. On floors, felt pads under furniture prevent scratches, and entry mats catch the sand and salt that come in on winter boots.

The sealer is what protects the surface, so in high traffic areas and showers we recommend a refresh coat every few years. We explain exactly what to use and what to avoid when we finish the job.

Good to Know

Frequently asked questions

Can microcement go over existing tile?

In many cases yes. If the tile is sound and properly prepared, microcement can be applied over it, which avoids a full demolition. We assess the substrate before quoting.

Is microcement really waterproof?

The system is water resistant when installed and sealed correctly, which is exactly why the installation matters. We use the right primers, reinforcement and sealers for wet areas like showers.

What colors does microcement come in?

Almost any. It is pigmented, so we can match warm neutrals, greys, off-whites or custom tones to your design.

How thick is microcement?

Usually two to three millimeters, which is why it can go over existing surfaces without raising floor levels much or requiring demolition.
